When we were children, we all had one show we always looked forward to watching when we got home from school. Some of us enjoyed watching The Proud Family, Cat Dog, Full House, etc. while I was a sucker for a good family show, I found myself captivated by Kimora Lee Simmons. Kimora was the woman who inspired me daily to be an entrepreneur and begin my fashion journey. Her show Kimora Life In The Fab Lane ignited my passion of becoming a real-life designer. My mom would make sure I had fabric, and I would design dresses although I didn’t really comprehend exactly what I was doing. The fact that I enjoy dressing up aided me to figure out that I desired to be a formal wear designer. I wanted to compel women feel like goddesses when they wore one of my pieces.

About a few months ago I saw an event posting about a fashion show here in Atlanta and they were looking for designers. At the beginning of this year, I told myself I would push myself to do all the things I was afraid to do which led me to inquire about this fashion show. I was expecting an instant response however I waited for about a couple of months before I got one then one day in the middle of the night I saw I received a response, I got so excited. The coordinator then proposed I sent over a few of my designs which is when I started to get a bit nervous because my belief in my talent has been shifty throughout the years. She emailed me after showing her my designs, and she said she loved them which gave me the boost I needed to really do this thing. Although the flier for the event said September, the coordinator told me the event was June and at this time it was the end of May and I needed to have eleven pieces to show.

I am now challenging myself to do things I never thought I could do. I made pants and shorts for the very first time! There will be moments in this life when things will be complex and you never think any good can come from where you are in those moments. There will be moments where you doubt your talents and never think you could do something that may seem challenging. I want you guys to do what I have done myself, PUT YOUR FAITH IN YOU AND YOUR ABILITIES TO THE TEST! Don’t back down when things get unpleasant, yes you may cry and even feel like giving up but NEVER give up on the things you have dreamed of! The only way you can fail is if you don’t try.
I want you guys to come on this journey with me up until my designer debut to see how you can push yourself in the right direction when everything seems to be going wrong.
